Unseen

The season of the rains had passed

The forking paths, all lush and green

And somewhere in the undergrowth

A shy little flower bloomed unseen.

My feet walked those verdant trails

Seeking spots my weary self to lean

Uncaring of who or what approached,

The shy little flower bloomed unseen

I gazed in wonder at the lofty trees,

Wound with creepers, thick with mossy screen

But down near the forest floor,

The shy little flower bloomed unseen.

A river warbled its eternal lilt to me

Gurgling aloud over pebbles smooth and clean

Safe in its hidden nook,

The shy little flower bloomed unseen

Bright with butterflies, and brilliant petals

Never did I behold such a woodland scene

Unheeding of its deep oblivion,

A shy little flower bloomed unseen

My soul held fast in a fragrant snare,

I looked closer for its source serene

Long did I forage amongst the herbs to find

A shy little flower blooming unseen.

My heart caught fast in its tendrils redolent

I wanted to proclaim the beauty I had seen

My clarion call cut off by the flower

Which wanted to spread its joy unseen!

Pensively I retraced my steps

From the frailest do we wisdom glean

A wispy woodland flower taught me how

To spread radiance yet remain unseen.

Faith

The unseen, unknown power which always leads you on

The guiding force remaining when all else is gone

A thought, an emotion, a belief so deep

An anchoring force propelling the wildest leap

A lamp lighting a way which is darkly unknown

The nurturing rain to ensure the seed has grown

A trust which forms the very breath of life

A bond unbroken, deflecting every stroke of the knife

The splint which holds together and rejoins broken bone

A protecting shield which averts the malicious stone

The heart beating on refusing to give up hope

Defying all toil, the ability to cope

The small whispering voice saying deliverance is near

The courage which drives away every vestige of fear

Great deeds which can cleave mighty mountains into two

Dreams soaring doggedly into the unknown blue

The uplifting hand which makes the mundane great

Bringing divinity to the human is the spark called faith!

Silence

A tenuous bridge of silken thread

Connecting the dark with the light

Silence thus casts its invisible web

Mingling weakness with quiet might!

Many a time you find the world

Drowning in its cacophony of noise

It is then that silence speaks to you

Its tranquility a divine voice.

Sound pulsates in our hearts they say,

The very center of each life

Silence is the language of the soul

Battling its way through strife

Silence comes in many forms’

Forgiving- warm or brittle-cold

At times, empty like space devoid

Sometimes filled with tales untold.

A symphony which the deaf can hear

The choir in which the mute take part

Silence is the sound discerned

With closed ears, but an open heart!

Nostalgia

As twilight sets in and dusk begins to deepen,

The mind wanders homewards

Looking for memories which happened.

Some live close to surface, others buried deep

Some merry peals of laughter

Some to make you weep.

Some skimming the mind with tiny pricks of regret

Others anchored inside

Lest you should forget.

Some shimmer like dew drops in the cobwebs of yesterday

Others like gaping holes

Where happiness was torn away

They will trap you with their siren song

Don’t dwell on them, they say

Wander too far in their marshes and you will lose your way

Look ahead, move on, keep the past in the past

Only carry the good with you

For life’s landscape is vast.

Good memories strengthen belief in the joy that life offers

They are treasures that yesterday left

To fill tomorrow’s coffers!

Celebrate

When the nights lengthen and the winter comes

When sunshine is an endless wait

It is time to look at the humble lamps

Which give us cause to celebrate.

Each a sun by itself in its own little way

Brightening its own corner of the world

Lending light to guide those lost, astray

Dreams of joy in its glow aswirl.

Undaunted by the size of its diminutive flame

So puny against the raging flare of the sun

The lamp only knows to shine and light

Seeking no validation from any one!

They are not so different, the sun and the lamp

Their size and power a chance of fate

Each living to dispel the surrounding darkness

And to give us a cause to celebrate.

At peace with themselves, both seek no glory

Each happy with its unique trait

Each playing its role in the scheme of things

Each its own light to celebrate!

Dawn

A glow on the horizon,
Tells the night to begone
Darkness banished to its realm,
It is the advent of dawn!

Hope spreads its gossamer wings
Bringing light where there was none
A little might be lost
But a lot has been won.

Warmth glows its defiance
Against the tendrils of cold
Uplifting the spirit
When the darkness takes hold

The horizon melts the shackles
Of all that is bleak
The light works its magic
Claiming the shadows as weak

No gloaming lasts forever,
The sun is never always gone
Come the darkest hour
It is always followed by dawn!

Blood

A deafening silence followed by a roar
There begins a deadly war
A line drawn the Earth divided
Hands tainted from afar.
The sky darkening to a deep grim gray
The sun a memory in its maw
A cold rain falling down below,
The ground scarred and raw.
The streets echo to the sound of death
Ghosts past rising from their grave,
Jeering as the new mankind marches past
Refusing to be saved
From its own macabre and violent past
From its own greed for power,
While devastation flies on blood red wings
Humanity’s lowest hour!
Promises broken over and over
Right and wrong alike in flood
Few saints, many sinners in this war
ALL hands stained with BLOOD!

Choice

The path of life is never straight
Riddled with twists and turns
Many a time crossed by brambles thick
As many a traveler learns

The roads of this long journey
Diverge now and then
Eyes awash with forks and crosses
Which seem beyond out ken!

This or that, what and which
Form this expedition’s tale
Every step a new riddle unfolds
Along this winding trail…

Some forks are left behind,
Some crossroads never seen again
You can but follow your chosen path
Lamenting loss is all in vain.

For most of us, the life we forge
Is nothing but the fruit of choice
Listen well to what the conscience says
For it softly speaks in His voice!

Hope

The old year sets, the new one arises
Both have a message to give
A lesson from the old, a whisper from the new
They teach us that life is to live.

Old anguish, despair, sorrow and pain
Is best left behind in the past
Those colors best fading quietly away
Not repainted to last.

If life is to be lived on memories alone,
Remember to keep them mellow
Look for the white within the black
For the good in each of your fellow

When the sun rises on that new dawn
Let its new rays warm your heart
Let the golden light spell novelty
A new path and a new start!

It is never too late to begin again
You are never too old to cope
Let the feeling of newness engulf you in its warmth
The greatest feeling of HOPE!

Light

The festival of light approaches
Setting the world aglow
Good wishes, bounty and cheer
Causing many a soul to grow
The light of these lamps burns quiet
Without the fire of aggression
Hope, peace and plenty for all
Their only wish and passion
Whether the sparkle of thousands of the rich
Or a solitary one in a poor home
These lights brighten the path for all
Bidding all welcome!
May these lights serve their purpose
Keeping us on the path good and kind
Driving before them darkness and despair
Cleansing all corners of the mind!
May all seek goodness and direction
In their warmth and brightness kind
May the plant of peace take root
And Divine blessings find!
